About the Jackson County Library
Library Service in Jackson County began in the 1920's due
to the initial efforts of Lilian Buchanan, Mr. C. J. Harris,
and the 20th Century Club, and later in the 1950's through
the efforts of Grace Beck and the Sylva Woman's Club. In 1967
Jackson County voters approved a $20,000 bond issue for a
permanent building, and with the assistance of state and federal
grants, a library building was constructed and opened for
business in October 1975. The 6,400 quare foot building is
located in downtown Sylva.
